I was kind of skeptical about using one, but I had to due to my space limitations. With an aftermarket temp gauge I have set mine up to come on at different temps depending what I am doing and the time of year. I also have a switch hard wired in in case I need some full on power for cooling in an instant. I have had a great experience with my flex-a-lite even having them replace the faulty product for free. I drove too fast and retaining pin would constantly pop out that held the fan to the motor, making for some interesting/scary moments. This has been fixed in their newer products. I would suggest getting the probe that goes into water pipe, not the one that you put between the fins of the radiator, I have found it to be more reliable.
